A trainer has the huge responsibility to not only share knowledge, but also to make sure that the participants retain the knowledge and apply it in their life to achieve greater growth. A trainer that is able to help others to achieve their goals by teaching them skills needs to develop a personality that enhances the learning experience. Here, we discuss some ways using which trainers can take their training to the next level.

Controlling Emotions

Even if you talk about your personal life in a classroom, you must know what impact it will have on your students. A trainer that relates and connects personal experiences with the lessons being taught to help students to absorb and retain the lessons is considered brilliant. On the other hand, a trainer that relates personal incidents that do not help the learners to gain the knowledge that they have come to gain is not helping the students. A trainer needs to keep emotions in control and to use them, if required, to improve learning.

Showing frustration, anger, nervousness or hurt in front of the trainees reveals unprofessionalism. A trainer who is in control of himself/herself throughout the training, even in semi-formal interactions with the trainees, reveals a strong personality, which is an essential quality for a trainer to have. As much as the sharing of knowledge, the personality of the trainer has an impact on the learning.

Involving Participants in Learning

In a training session, there needs to be a perfect balance of passive learning (listening to the trainer) and active learning (participating in the learning). When planning a training session, its impact on the learning must be the primary concern. For instance, if an active learning session of thirty minutes follows three hours of passive learning, the participants will already be tired, and might reluctantly participate in the active learning. That will defeat the purpose of the active learning.

On the other hand, if an active training session of thirty minutes follows an hour of passive learning, the participants will be eager to indulge in some active learning.

Active learning can be used for breaking the monotony of long lectures, helping learning through direct experience, and making learning fun. It is best if an active learning break serves all the three purposes.

Influencing Others

A trainer must develop skills in influencing others. Trainees that admire the personality of the trainer will be more attentive to the learning. A trainer with excellent communication skills and a confident personality can impact learning positively. Along with the quality of the content being taught, how the content is delivered by the trainer has a heavy impact on how it is received by the trainees.

To become a trainer par excellence and create a lasting impression on the lives of the trainees by helping them in achieving growth, spending a little time in skill development can be a valuable investment.
