What Makes a Good Trainer?
To develop skills as a professional trainer, do consider participating in Train the Trainer Training Course delivered by pdtraining in Sydney and other cities in Australia.
OK, so you’ve got that new job you’ve always wanted, but you also realise that part of your new role will be training new staff and you’re nervous because you’ve never conducted a training session before, so what do you do?
It’s easy; take a train-the-trainer course from pdtraining.com.au !
Do you remember in school how some teachers really connected with you and made learning fun, while other teachers made you frustrated and disinterested in the subject matter?
There are three main aspects of a good trainer in my humble opinion:
1. Rapport
2. Knowledge
3. Delivery Style
Rapport refers to the manner in which a trainer interacts with his or her students.
I’ve been in some training courses where the trainer obviously felt they were living on a pedestal and talked down to the class the entire time, where other times the trainer waffled on about their personal life or wasted a lot of time “chatting” with students instead of teaching.
Knowledge refers to how knowledgeable a trainer is on a particular subject.
Some trainers are highly specialised while others are generalists. Depending on which course you’re attending should dictate the level of knowledge required.
An intro course and an advanced course could be taught by the same person, but in most cases the intro trainer is a generalist and the advanced trainer is a specialist.
Delivery style refers to the way and medium with which the content is delivered to the students.
Is the course delivered through 50 PowerPoint slides, or via a small group workshop approach? Some types of content become increasingly difficult to learn in workshops, while other content is just too subtle for PowerPoint.
A well trained trainer will know the best way to build rapport, have quality experience and knowledge and be comfortable with multiple types of training delivery styles.
